As a kind of metal pigment, aluminum silver paste can make the coating produce different effects from other ordinary pigments. Some skills in the use process of aluminum silver paste are briefly explained.

1. In order to achieve satisfactory results, the aluminum silver paste should be evenly dispersed in the coating system, and the coating should be uniform without fine particles. Aluminum flake is easy to bend and break. If high-speed stirring or other continuous and intense processing is carried out in the coating production process, its geometric structure is easily destroyed, resulting in coarse particles, dark color, reduced coverage, and metal migration. High shear dispersion means should therefore not be used.

Recommendation: Pre-dispersion method: first select the appropriate solvent or a mixture of several solvents, with the ratio of aluminum silver paste to solvent of 1:1 or 1:2, the solvent is added to the aluminum silver paste, and slowly stirred until uniform (about 10-20 minutes). Add base material to the system. In general production, aluminum silver paste is soaked in solvent for 30 minutes in advance and then stirred slowly.

2. The dilution choice of aluminum silver paste is mainly determined by the paint set by the formula. Non-floating aluminum silver paste can use polar and non-polar solvents, such as aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons, lipids (such as butyl acetate), ketones (such as methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone), alcohols (such as ethanol).

3. Chlorinated solvents (halogenated...) are not suitable for aluminum silver paste pigments. Chlorinated solvents release HCL, which chemically reacts with the fine aluminum pigments.

4, many commonly used coating base materials such as oily varnish base material, acrylic acid, alkyd, ring itching ester and water-based base material, can be used in non-floating aluminum silver paste pigment. 6. Add proportion:

The addition ratio of aluminum silver paste of colored primer> 1%-4%;

The addition ratio of aluminum-silver paste of pure-silver primer is 4%-10%;

The addition ratio of aluminum silver paste in single-layer metal glitter paint is 5%-13%;

Anticorrosive paint, canned, and coil coating aluminum silver paste addition ratio of 10%-13%.

7. When the surface of the coating film is parallel to the orientation, the effect is good, and the parallel orientation difference will lead to turbidity or diffuse reflection. The orientation of the flake pigment is related to the formulation and construction conditions. The evaporation of the solvent causes shrinkage of the wet coating film, and finally presses the aluminum pigment into a horizontal orientation position. The higher the solvent content in the coating, the stronger this effect. This explains the phenomenon of flake pigment orientation. Thus, the optical properties of low solids coatings are better than those of high solids coatings.

The volatilization of the solvent will cause a strong vortex inside the wet film, but if the solvent volatilizes too slowly, a so-called Nard vortex will be formed, hindering the parallel orientation of the aluminum pigment (resulting in turbidity).

Resin can be used to promote solvent volatilization (such as ester butyl cellulose CAB), and some additives can be used. They can fix flake pigments. It is reported in the literature that wax dispersion can have "spacing effect" and surfactants have similar functions. However, its function should be tested before use.
